CLEO 2027
Paper Preparation & Requirements
Everything authors need to prepare and submit a complete CLEO paper summary.
Submission Preparation
Requirements
35-Word Abstract
Your abstract should be a brief summary of your paper topic. If your paper is accepted, your 35-word abstract will be included in the Conference Program. The same abstract should also be included in the two-page summary as highlighted in the style guide.
Two-Page Summary
All contributed authors are required to submit a final summary of their work for publication in the Technical Digest. Follow the CLEO two-page limit and convert the completed paper to PDF before uploading.
All PDF submissions must contain the following items to be published:
- Complete title.
- Complete listing of all authors and their affiliations.
- A self-contained abstract limited to 35 words. Indexers such as Google Scholar will not index papers that do not contain abstracts.
- The appropriate copyright statement following the abstract. By default, the copyright statement will appear as © 2027 The Author(s). If needed, the default statement can be suppressed through use of the {abstract*} environment.
- Permission and attribution for any trademarked or copyrighted images. Images of people or images owned or trademarked by other entities—including well-known logos or cartoon characters—require official written permission.
Please embed all fonts and use standard fonts whenever possible. Non-English font packages used in the paper, figures or tables may not be visible to reviewers. CLEO has experienced particular problems with MS-PGothic, MS-Gothic and MS-Mincho.
Proof your work before submitting. Changes or revisions will not be accepted after the submission deadline.
Category Selection
Please review the topic categories and select the area most appropriate for your work. You may also request that your paper be considered for one of the symposia.
Copyright Agreement
The submission form incorporates an electronic copyright transfer agreement as part of the submission. No additional mailed documentation is required.
Presentation Preference
Presentation options are “oral or poster acceptable,” “poster only” and “oral only.” The committee has the final decision on presentation types, although every effort is made to honor authors’ preferences. Postdeadline papers are strictly oral.
Adherence to the instructions for preparing the abstract and summary is imperative. Failure to complete any of the requirements may result in rejection of the paper. Emailed or faxed submissions will not be accommodated.
A complete submission must be submitted through the online submission system in accordance with the style guide and by the published deadline. Do not email, fax or mail your paper.
Registration and submission for Technical Sessions is open to all members of the scientific and technical community. Authors are responsible for obtaining the appropriate approval to present their work at this international forum.

Style Guide

Do not use non-English font packages in the body of the paper summary, figures or tables. Characters in these fonts may not be visible to reviewers.
Presenting at CLEO
Modes of Presentation
The program committee will schedule all oral and poster sessions. Abstracts and summaries for both oral and poster papers are published in the same manner through the Optica Publishing Group platform. Authors will be asked to indicate their preferred presentation format on the electronic submission form.
Oral Sessions
Contributed presentations are 15 minutes, and invited talks are 30 minutes. Each presentation should allow time for questions during the final two to three minutes.
Poster Sessions
Poster sessions allow selected papers to be presented in greater visual detail and encourage discussion with attendees.
- Bulletin boards measure 8 ft. high by 4 ft. wide (244 cm by 128 cm).
- Authors should display the paper title, author names and affiliations.
- Presenters must remain near their boards for the full 60–90-minute session.
- Audiovisual equipment is not supplied for poster presentations.
Evaluation Process
Peer Review
CLEO submissions undergo peer review by members of the Technical Program Committee. The results of the peer review determine paper selections and topic-driven technical sessions. CLEO Program Management will send the results by email to the submitting author.
Submissions may be rejected if substantial portions of the work were published in an archival journal or conference proceeding/digest more than one year before the current CLEO submission deadline, or if previously published material is not referenced appropriately.
If accepted, the summary—including illustrations—will be reproduced directly from the material submitted by the authors. It will be published through the Optica Publishing Group platform and submitted to the IEEE Xplore Digital Library, provided that the author attends CLEO and presents the paper.
Presented work is indexed in Ei Compendex, Scopus and several other indexing-service partners.
